How the Bärenfang honey liqueur is made

Our Imkergut Bärenfang is a traditionally produced, strong and sweet honey liqueur made from fine wheat brandy and fresh forest honey directly from our Black Forest apiary. The in-house recipe with valuable forest honey gives our Bärenfang honey liqueur its characteristic, unique taste. It is popular as a digestif after a meal or to round off a convivial evening.

Why the name Bärenfang?

The honey liqueur "Bärenfang" originally comes from East Prussia. According to stories and legends, a mixture of honey and alcohol was used to attract and distract bears. This was to protect the valuable beehives as well as the flocks of sheep from the bears. Whether a honey liqueur was actually used and whether the bears were literally captured cannot be proven. However, the honey liqueur also seemed to taste good to people, otherwise the recipe would have died out along with the bears.

Serving recommendation for our bear catch

The liqueur can be served as a classic shot in a shot glass. However, Bärenfang is also very popular in combination with tea; black tea or peppermint tea are particularly suitable as a tea with a shot. Bärenfang is also popular as a fine addition to a hot cup of milk.
