Our Apiary
Tradition Meets Innovation
Our beekeeping is more than just a family business – it’s a vibrant expression of tradition, passion, and craftsmanship that goes far beyond honey production. Master beekeeper Stefan Kumm continues the family legacy in the fourth generation. His father, Heinrich Kumm, is considered a pioneer in propolis refinement within the beekeeping community. Today, Stefan has transformed the small family business into the renowned and respected company Cum Natura, always staying true to its roots and connection with nature. Since 2001, our Immenstein apiary has proudly held the Bioland certification – a seal of sustainability and quality.

With up to 50,000 bees per colony, it would be quite the task to introduce each one personally 😉. We manage over 200 bee colonies with a combination of stationary and migratory beekeeping. The migratory bees travel within a 100 km radius around our location in Bühl, always seeking out the best nectar sources. Each year, we raise our own young colonies – with queens from our own breeding program, based on the robust Carnica and Buckfast lines.
Our bees live in spacious Dadant wooden hives that offer optimal conditions. The brood chamber is large, and the honey chamber half as high – just right for our industrious helpers. We use only our own beeswax for the combs and process excess wax in our cosmetics.
Thanks to modern hive scales that transmit data directly to our smartphones, we always know how our bees are doing – from weight development to potential weather changes.
Our Products
Diversity and Purity
Honey is the heart of our work, but our product range extends far beyond it. Most of our honey is produced in-house. Only select varieties such as lavender and manuka honey are sourced – always in top quality. If a honey variety is sold out, we don’t restock it from other beekeepers. We also harvest our own propolis and beeswax. Depending on demand, we may collaborate with beekeepers we know personally and trust for their quality. Our Bioland-certified bee pollen is tested in-house, and we also obtain pollen from a Spanish nature reserve. Royal jelly is sourced exclusively in organic quality.
Our Technology
Modern Efficiency Meets Tradition
Our beekeeping facility is equipped with a modern, electronically controlled extraction line. This includes:
- A DEE-Boxer uncapping machine
- A chain conveyor and pneumatic pusher
- A horizontal extractor and a honey sump with floor heating
- Roller tracks for empty supers
Our stirring systems are perfectly aligned with our production. This allows us to fill creamed honeys like cherry blossom, summer blossom, and rapeseed honey immediately after extraction and store them cooled in jars. Liquid honeys are bottled fresh as needed to ensure the best possible quality.
