Rape honey - the popular honey for children

Let's be honest: children love sweet things! Strong flavors, on the other hand, not so much. It's no wonder that rapeseed honey has proven to be a real children's classic - it tastes mildly sweet with a slightly floral note and is wonderfully creamy. Many a little or big fan is tempted to nibble straight from the spoon. Our rapeseed honey tastes particularly delicious as a spread for breakfast or to sweeten yoghurt or muesli.

Dreamlike: the rapeseed blossom in the Black Forest

Rapeseed, rapeseed, rapeseed, wherever you look: One of southern Germany's main cultivation areas for this popular oil plant is in the middle of the Black Forest. Its blossom in April and May not only makes the hearts of tourists beat faster, but also of locals: a bright yellow sea as far as the eye can see. Rapeseed has adapted perfectly to our climate and the plant thrives in the cool and humid climate of high altitudes. Not only we, but also our bees enjoy this radiant sea of flowers in spring, where they find plenty of nectar and pollen in a confined space: a unique feast, during which they also carry out their pollination work vigorously. From the abundant food supply, they produce the fine rapeseed honey that we enjoy at breakfast.

Did you know?

We all know rapeseed as a plant that provides cooking oil and biofuel - but did you know that rapeseed belongs to the cabbage genus and is therefore related to cauliflower, broccoli and pointed cabbage? The turnip is even a subspecies of rapeseed! In contrast to the vegetables mentioned, however, rapeseed has only been used in the kitchen for a comparatively short time: it was only modern breeding that made rapeseed oil a valuable foodstuff. On the other hand, rapeseed fields have long been an indispensable source of nectar for bees, and they are also a rewarding crop for beekeepers: their vastness makes it easy to obtain a pure variety of honey, because bees are creatures of habit - they fly to the same plants again and again.

Buy organic rapeseed honey - directly from the beekeeper

Why do you think we also call our rapeseed honey May honey? You can probably guess: We harvest it in beautiful May in the Upper Black Forest - naturally with the utmost care and consideration for the bees. However, it does not have its light, ivory-like color from the start: Due to its high glucose content, rapeseed honey crystallizes after a short time and becomes very solid. To counteract this, we stir it gently until creamy - the sugar crystals are broken down, the rapeseed honey acquires its wonderfully smooth consistency and lightens in color. It is then immediately filled into jars. Like all honeys from our own apiary, the rapeseed honey also has the Bioland seal and therefore meets the highest quality standards. Keep it tightly sealed in a cool, dark place.

Important note: Honey is not suitable for children under the age of one.
