Our mead, also known as honey wine, is made according to a traditional house recipe using regional cellar techniques. It is an authentic honey wine with a lovely sweet note, our mead is a real treat.

The creation of our honey mead

We only use our own summer blossom honey for our mead, directly from our Black Forest apiary. The summer blossom honey is fermented together with water and yeast to create a sweet mead. The use of sulphur is necessary to stop the fermentation process. For this reason, the mead also contains sulphites.

The ancient Germanic tribes already knew the sweet honey wine

Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages known to mankind. Honey wine is often attributed to the Vikings as a favorite drink, but many other, mostly Nordic cultures, also discovered their passion for this sweet wine early on. The word mead probably comes from the Indo-European root medhu, which can be translated as honey. Mead was already appreciated in ancient times - not only as a festive drink, but also because of its special significance in the culture of the time. According to tradition, mead was an integral part of many rituals and was regarded as a symbol of joie de vivre and prosperity. Mead is still very popular today - as a natural specialty with a centuries-old tradition.

Serving recommendation for mead

Whether cold or warm, our mead is always a fine treat. It tastes great as a delicious mulled wine, flavored with winter spices as required, or as a fresh summer cocktail with ice and frozen fruit. Mead is served in a drinking horn or in an earthenware or stone vessel in the proper style, while its strong color is shown to its best advantage in a beautiful wine glass.
