What is pollen?
It is now widely known that bees play an irreplaceable role in pollinating plants. But as they fly from flower to flower, they don’t just collect nectar for honey and ensure the survival of the plant world: Fine pollen also gets trapped in their fur. The hardworking bees enrich this pollen with nectar and enzymes, making it malleable. And just like that, the so-called “pollen load” is formed—the small yellow, orange, red, or blue-violet clumps often seen on the legs of bees as they fly about. Worker bees on “field duty” transport the tiny pollen grains to the hive, where the “hive crew” then receives the cargo. They store it in the hive’s honeycombs, as pollen is an important part of the brood’s diet. How does the beekeeper harvest the pollen?
To collect pollen from bees, beekeepers attach so-called pollen traps to the hive’s entrance. The fine-mesh screens catch some of the pollen that the bees collect. In doing so, our beekeepers take care not to take too much pollen or honey away from the bees, as that would weaken the entire colony. Only a healthy, strong bee colony benefits the beekeeper as well.Pollen as Part of Your Diet
Pollen can be consumed on its own or mixed with other foods. If you’re already familiar with bee pollen, you can, for example, incorporate one tablespoon of our German pollen into your daily diet. If you’re new to bee pollen, you should start by taking just one teaspoon a day and gradually increase the amount. It’s recommended to soak the pollen in liquid for at least an hour before eating or overnight; if not, be sure to chew the pollen thoroughly. Our tip: The tiny granules can be soaked in a glass of milk or orange juice; they also make a perfect and visually appealing addition to muesli or porridge. Adding a teaspoon of honey makes the whole thing especially delicious. Why buy German bee pollen?
You can buy our German bee pollen in 125-gram or 250-gram jars. The Bioland-certified pollen comes from Baden-Württemberg and has been gently harvested and dried to preserve its nutritional value. The advantage of German bee pollen over pollen from other countries is that it consists of pollen from plants we’re accustomed to here. This makes it generally better tolerated, especially for people who are prone to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to foreign plants. We take great care not to deprive the bees of too much of their valuable food, so as not to unnecessarily weaken the colonies. German pollen is therefore a true rarity.Important Information on the Use of Pollen
Pollen is a dietary supplement and is therefore classified as a food product. Dietary supplements are not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake (one tablespoon). As with any other food, consuming pollen may cause allergic reactions. If allergic reactions occur, please stop taking the pollen immediately.Keep out of reach of children.
